A Co-Quarantiner
When you get COVID and you have to quarantine, the thought of getting into isolation slowly sinks in. When I got down with COVID on Sunday evening, it was this same thought process that I was going through. When I returned home after finding out that I had COVID, the preparations for my quarantine started- my mom started packing clothes for the week. She gave me a separate plate and dishwashing liquid to wash it and separate washing soap to wash the clothes. But a surprise was due the next day...
When I got up the next morning, I found my mom was coughing like I had used to the previous day. So my dad took her to the hospital. After about an hour, I found my mom bringing her supplies to my room.
I asked her, " You too?"
"Yes".
This isn't going to go well for anyone!!
And then started our home quarantine together!
The first few days were a bit too uneasy. I used to walk out of the door, just like I normally would, before realising that I was under quarantine and rushed back to the room. My mom's plight was even worse: she kept complaining that she had nothing to do in quarantine. So me and my mom started reading books: I read Jackie Chan's autobiography while she read Sudha Murthy's book One Thousand Stitches. By the time we both got out of quarantine, we had finished reading the books (my mom finished reading the book twice!)
The lunch situation in the house was a big mess. The only two people who knew how to cook- me and my mom- were in quarantine, and there was no way we could go to the kitchen and cook food for all. So my dad had to buy food for everyone. How many times do you ask? Three times a day!
My grandpa, dad and sister had no choice but to eat the food my dad bought. Even I didn't have a problem, because I occasionally eat food from outside. The only person who had issues with the 'outside food' was my mom. What issue? They were outside!!
Every day when the food came, it was the same story: this doesn't taste good enough, that curry could have been done better, why do they put such big pieces, the list just goes on. The problem was she doesn't like outside food. She prefers only homemade food, no matter what. I, on the other hand, devoured all the food before me. Come on, I was hungry; what did you expect me to do?
After a day or two, we adjusted, but the situation outside the room was also a bit gruesome. Food didn't come on time, dirty plates piled up, no snacks in the evening for the trio and whatnot. Everyone badly wanted us to be out of quarantine ASAP!!!
And that they did come. A week after quarantine, we got ourselves tested. Both Negative!!! Hurray!
And things slowly went back to where they were before our co-quarantine.
